Imire Rhino Tragedy

Since creating this blog, the Travers have suffered a huge loss. All three of Imire's adult breeding rhinos were shot and killed by poachers. This has been a devistating loss for all of us who loved these rhinos and were fortunate enough to have been part of their lives. Information will come in the future as to how you can help the Travers family continue their efforts in Black Rhino conservation. Amber, DJ, and Sprinter--we love you, we miss you, and we will never forget you.

Black Rhino Conservation

This blog was created to educate people about the dangers black rhinos in Subsaharan Africa, especially in Zimbabwe, are currently facing. Due to the current economic crisis in Zimbabwe, black rhinos are under heavy assault. There are fewer than 2,500 black rhinos left in the wild and their numbers continue to dwindle due to poaching. Highly sought after for its horn, the black rhino is an easy target due to its poor eyesight and a less than natural fear of humans from constant viewing by tourists.

Imire Safari Ranch in Marondera, Zimbabwe is committed to black rhino breeding and conservation. This blog is dedicated to the Travers family and their efforts.
